A monitor mount or a monitor arm allows the individual to attain a comfortable working posture and eye relief through proper desk ergonomics. It is a robotic-looking equipment that attaches to the desk, ceiling, or wall and raises the height of your monitor according to the individual’s height. It is easily adjustable following the individual’s working habits. A good monitor stand for a desk protects the individual from the discomfort caused by working on the computer for longer durations.

An inappropriate desktop setup can lead to severe neck pain, back pain, wrist pain, and headache. To avoid such scenarios, select a proper monitor stand for a desk out of the multiple variations of monitor stands available.

Things You Should Keep in Mind Before Selecting an Ideal Monitor Mount –

What is the weight and size of your monitor?

Every unique desktop’s size and weight differ; each monitor stand has a particular weight capacity and specific screen size requirements.

If the monitor is wide, it requires a monitor mount that accommodates large-sized monitors. Most monitor mounts are designed to be adjustable for a wide range of sizes. For a heavy monitor, a gas spring monitor mount is preferable as it has the strength to hold large monitors.

How many monitors do you use?

If you use more than one monitor in your setup, desk mounts are specially designed to accommodate more than one monitor. There are dual and multi-monitor mounts available that can accommodate more weight than single monitor mounts. Most dual monitor mounts have four basic types: desk-mounted, wall-mounted, desk riser, and freestanding, each having the capacity to hold different desk and monitor sizes.

Is it ideal for your height?

A monitor mount works well for most people, but if you are tall, a tall arm monitor mount is the right fit for your desk setup. A standard desk setup may force you to gaze downward to match the monitor’s height, which can cause eye strain, back pain and neck strain. A tall monitor mount generally has a centre pole height of at least 39 inches.

Following are the monitor mounts that can adjust their height:

  • Spring monitor mount – It has a spring that allows the individual to move the monitors manually.
  • Gas monitor mount – Its internal mechanism involves a gas cylinder which allows the individual to move the monitors manually.
  • Electric monitor mount – These monitor mounts change heights by pushing a button.

Is your monitor VESA complaisant?

To get a monitor mount for your ergonomic desk setup, your monitor must be VESA compliant. VESA stands for Video Electronics Standards Association. The monitor is usually VESA complaisant if the back of your monitor has a hole pattern. A typical VESA complaisant holds 75 x 75 mm and 100 x 100 mm dimensions. IMacs are generally not VESA compliant.
